The Barber Shop

Fancy a haircut? Or how about a gin and tonic? Or what about both at the same time?

If you have thought that 89 York Street was a humble barber shop for moustache trims and close shaves, then you’re not alone, I did too. But in a nod to the prohibition era The Barber Shop tastefully recreates the feeling of a secret bar giving you the sense of stepping back in time. Walk through the main shopfront and behind a secret door to discover a cosy bar decked out with mood lighting complete with Chesterfield lounges and a groovy bar. You’ll find gin on tap and a range of over 50 gins (sadly I didn’t try them all) and some inventive cocktails as well as spirits and wine. While you’re there snack on some charcuterie or a cheese plate. We enjoyed this for a Thursday night afterwork drink (some a little bit too much). Go for... a sophisticated afterwork drink (or a hot towel shave) Don’t go... in large group – the seating is limited.
