We are looking for Australian based lawyers wanting interesting and varied international work in the Pacific region.

Pacific legal Network (PLN) are recruiting for two positions: a senior corporate/commercial lawyer along with a more junior practitioner (3 years PQE minimum). This is a great opportunity for a senior lawyer to use their experience in the Pacific or advising international clients, to service PLN’s existing client base and continue expanding PLN, and for a junior corporate/commercial lawyer to develop a highly sought after international skill set.

Pacific Legal Network is the Pacific’s only regional legal services practice.

Its head office is in Sydney, and in Australia the legal practice of PLN is also a national practice group of Macpherson Kelley. PLN provides the only co-ordinated legal and business service in the Pacific, offering multi-jurisdictional access to lawyers and business advisers across Australia and the Pacific, simplifying the process of being represented in multiple countries. PLN is a rapidly growing network and currently has representation in 15 locations between Hawaii and Singapore.

The Australian based team at PLN operates an international practice, including acting for clients and developing business opportunities:

  • As the central co-ordinating office of the Pacific Legal Network (www.pln.com.au) including advising Australian and international clients on matters across the Pacific, and

  • As an integral part of the development across Asia-Pacific of IAG Global (www.iag.global )

We are looking at recruiting two experienced corporate/commercial lawyers to assist the Head of Legal Services in Sydney managing and developing the extensive Pacific based legal practice. In particular, the practice concerns the highly regulated financial services, telecommunications, and energy sectors.

The day to day work entails advising clients in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, company and business sales and purchases, private equity, equity raisings and managed investments schemes, procuring advice with our Pacific PLN members on corporations law matters, public company law issues and compliance, corporate governance matters and contracts and commercial arrangements.

Position Overview

The Corporate / Commercial Lawyers will be responsible for advising clients on the legality of commercial transactions as well as advising corporations on their legal rights and duties, including the duties and responsibilities of corporate officers across multiple Pacific jurisdictions. Dealing primarily with business transactions the role will require in-depth knowledge of multiple aspects of the law, how it pertains to the client’s business, contracts and negotiations, listing rules, intellectual property as well as an understanding of financial reporting.

We are looking to recruit one senior lawyer along with a more junior practitioner, however in both instances we want to recruit lawyers who will form part of the growing PLN team and help manage and continue to grow the Pacific wide legal practice.

The roles both require excellent knowledge and understanding of general corporate law, contract law, tax law, accounting, securities law, bankruptcy, intellectual property rights, property law and the laws specific to the client’s business and the countries in which it operates.

The roles will also have responsibility for business development, building and ongoing development of PLN as well as coaching and supervision of more junior lawyers and support staff.

Pacific exposure will be favourably looked upon.
