Tony vs the menu: a night at Sidaam

On our most recent trip to Port Moresby, our wonderful colleagues, Eunice and Tony Noki, decided it was time to try somewhere different from our usual favourites, Asia Aroma and Alibi. Their choice was Sidaam, located in Kwalimu Hau and it turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip.

The entire PNG Pacific Legal Network team turned up in full force, bringing plenty of stories, lots of laughs and some very empty stomachs. From the moment we arrived, the restaurant felt welcoming and relaxed, with a modern fit-out and a great atmosphere that made it easy to settle in and enjoy the evening.

The food was excellent. Some of the standout dishes included the lamb shank, which was incredibly tender, the fried whole fish, the refreshing papaya salad, and the pork and mint salad. Every dish that arrived at the table seemed to become someone's favourite, and there was plenty of swapping, sharing and taste testing happening throughout the night.

The service also deserves a special mention. The staff were friendly, attentive and clearly knew their menu well. In fact, they were so convincing that Tony somehow ended up ordering what felt like half the menu. By the time all the dishes arrived, our table looked more like a banquet than a team dinner.

Despite giving it our best effort, there was simply too much food for even the PNG Pacific Legal Network team to finish. We eventually left with five bags of leftovers, which was not a bad problem to have considering how good everything tasted.

If you're in Port Moresby and looking for a place with excellent food, generous portions, friendly service and an atmosphere that's perfect for sharing a meal with friends, family or colleagues, Sidaam is well worth a visit. It has earned a spot on our list for future visits to Port Moresby.
